Whilst there are not absolute right and wrong ways to prepare food or cook it, there are some skills and techniques that make the task easier and more enjoyable. It's also valuable knowing what these are as it makes reading and executing a recipe much easier. For example, if a recipe says julienne the carrots and you don't know what julienne is, makes it hard to do that part of the recipe.

This section comprises the most common skills and techniques associated with everyday food preparation and cooking, plus some not so regularly used or referred to ones as well.
