The Blue Ribbon CookbookAgricultural shows are an important part of community life across Australia. In country areas they give people an excuse to get off the farm and catch up with the neighbours, and the city shows are both a spectacle and an institution that bring the city and the bush together for a few brief days each year.

Liz HarfulBut for many individuals they represent much more than an opportunity to relax and have fun. They are about the serious business of rewarding effort and enterprise. Most of Australia's shows were founded by enthusiastic pioneers keen to see the new colony prosper by encouraging settlers to adopt the latest agricultural practices, nurture productive gardens and develop their homemaking skills.

Liz Harfull has more than 25 years' experience as a journalist, freelance writer, editor and public relations consultant specializing in working with rural and regional communities. She has compiled a cookbook full of the winning recipes from the regional Australian shows and she joins me in this podcast to tell us about The Blue Ribbon Cookbook.
